Vielgerühmtes Österreich behandelt das Leben des Asia Kick Box Meisters Keyvan Alharki nach seiner Flucht aus dem Irak. Was für Chancen hat ein Asylwerber in Österreich? Welche Möglichkeiten hat er seine Situation zu verbessern? Warum lässt ein Mensch sein Leben hinter sich? Das sind nur wenige Fragen mit denen sich der Fim auseinandersetzt.

Das Projekt ist aus der Asylproblematik entstanden. Ein ewiges Thema mit dem sich jede Regierung beschäftigt. Keine konnte eine Lösung finden. Warum bekommen Asylwerber keine Arbeitserlaubnis? Sie würden Steuern zahlen. Ohne Arbeitserlaubnis muss der Staat, also der Österreicher, und die Caritas, also der Österreicher, bis zur Einbürgerung bzw. Abschiebung (die der Staat bezahlt) aufkommen. Solche Verfahren dauern oft über fünf Jahre.

Die Arbeit von Alexander Hinteregger beschäftigt sich mit der Situation eines Heimatsuchenden auf der Warteliste.

Much-praised Austria is a documentary about the life of Kayvan Alharki. 2005 Asia Champion of the World Thai KickBoxing League, he came to Austria in 2007 as an immigrant. What happened in Iraq, that he had to leave with just some clothes? What chances does an immigrant have in Austria? What possibilities does he have to improve his situation?

The project was developed out of the asylum difficulties in Austria. A long-term subject, which every government tries to deal with, but none of them have found a real solution. Asyl seekers don't get a work permit. Why is that so? They would pay taxes. Now the country and the Caritas have to spend a lot of money for them. That means every austrian has to pay for them, until they get an austrian passport or will be deported, which again is paid by the state. Such an asylum procedure might take more than 5 years and nobody is really happy about the current situation.
